The story of The Mikado revolves around a young fellow named Nanki-Poo who has banished himself from the little town of Titipu. This operetta is a lighthearted burlesque of Victorian English culture and the vagaries of love, set in a fanciful (and wholly imaginary) Japanese society. It is one of the most admired of all the Gilbert and Sullivan works.
